History of Rencontre East coastal boats
Rencontre East, along with numerous other communities on the south/southwest coast, knew these vessels as the link to the "outside world" for all supplies, and mail. They began their service in the early 1900's and ended in 1995.
The M.V. Taverner was the last of the Coastal Boats to sail out of Rencontre East, as shown in the picture docked at the wharf. It was delayed due to high winds.
It serviced the communities twice per week. Rencontre saw them on Wednesday and Saturday, which meant having to leave for several days just for something as simple as a routine medical visit.
